Hill Country Ride VII April 2004
This year's ride was April 1-4. Ran into a few light sprinkles on the way to Fredericksburg on Thursday. Light rain almost all day on Friday. A few hardy souls attemped a ride in the late morning and got pretty well soaked. It cleared up in the afternoon and a few of us managed to get in some miles.
Fergy and I rode south out of Luckenbach and caught FM 473 east. Cut back east of Blanco and looped back through Blanco to Luckenbach. Made it back to Fredericksburg before the downpour hit. That put a real damper on the bar b que.
It cleared up on Saturday. Fergy and I could not round up anyone to go with us so we cut straight down to Comfort and over to Medina and Vanderpool. Stopped to visit the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum. From there we took FM 337 over to Camp Wood, FM 335 up to Tx 41 west to US 337 into Rocksprings. At lunch at Vacquero's in Rocksprings (good Mexican food and cheap). We took US 337 about 3 miles west of Rock Springs and hooked a left onto FM 674 to Bracketville. A great 58 mile ride. We toured Old Ft Clark and then headed back to Camp Wood on Tx 55 and FM 334. Picked up FM 337 in Camp Wood and retraced our route to Comfort. Got caught in the rain for about 3 miles east of Camp Verde but it wasn't bad.
Took Grapevine Road back to Luckenbach. Not a good road to ride late in the evening. Bad curves, wild animals and changing light conditions make it a hard ride. We pulled into Luckenbach after 450 great miles.
Left Fredericksburg before 8:30 am on Sunday under threatening rain. As a result we changed our return route and rode east to Johnson City and then up to Burnet. At Burnet we took a back road to Copperas Cove and another FM to Gatesville. We cut straight over to Waco, ate lunch at the Elite Cafe on the Circle and hauled straight back to Plano on I-35. End of a great weekend.
